What is shearling?
Shearing describes the tanned skin of a lamb where the wool is left intact with the leather. Shearling is a by-product of the meat industry. Sometimes shearling can be described as sheepskin but this would be more appropriate to describe the skin from an older animal i.e. a sheep rather than a lamb.
What is lambskin?
Lambskin describes the tanned skin of a lamb. This can include skin where the wool is left intact during the tanning process, often referred to as shearling. It can also include skin where the wool is removed during the tanning process, often referred to as lamb nappa or lamb leather.
Is shearling affected by the rain?
Shearling is a type of leather and therefore requires the same protection as normal leather goods from the rain. It is important to understand the natural wool (usually curly) maybe have been ironed (straighten) on certain products. If the wool becomes wet or is exposed to excessive humidity it can regain some or all of its natural curls over time. This is part of its natural evolution. For further advice on caring for your item, see our General Care Instructions under CARE on the product page.
Is shearling and leather affected by UV light?
Shearling and leather are natural materials dye with extreme care to high European standards. However, if a product is left exposed to UV light for long periods of time this can affect the colour of your product. We recommend all products are stored in a dust bag away from UV light at all times.
Do you sell real fur?
In 2021 we decided as a brand to faze out the use of real fur in our collections. In 2022 no designs were created using fur. All leather and shearling used in our styles are by product of the meat and diary industry.
How sustainable is shearling and leather?
We use the highest quality skins sourced from the best tanneries and suppliers in Europe. There is great longevity in real skin allowing pieces to pass down generations. There is evidence to suggest leather skins degrade in the ground at the same rate as an oak leaf compared to the plastics used in fake furs and leathers which can take decades.
